How to apply cutting board wax: Using a clean, dry cloth, apply cutting board wax evenly onto your clean wooden cutting board. Allow any excess wax to soak in for at least 30 minutes. Then, remove the excess wax using a new clean, dry cloth
- Cleaning: After each use, wash your cutting board with hot, soapy water. Use a sponge or dishcloth to scrub the surface thoroughly, removing any food particles or stains. Rinse the board with clean water and pat it dry with a clean towel.
- Sanitizing: Regularly sanitize your cutting board to prevent the growth of bacteria. You can use a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach mixed with 1 gallon of water. Apply the solution to the cutting board, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it off with clean water and dry it thoroughly.
- Avoid soaking: Do not soak your cutting board in water or place it in the dishwasher, as this can cause warping or cracking. Excessive moisture can also promote the growth of bacteria.
- Oil regularly: To keep your cutting board moisturized and prevent it from drying out or cracking, apply a food-grade mineral oil or cutting board oil regularly. Apply a thin layer of oil to the surface of the board, allow it to soak in for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth.
- Avoid harsh chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on your cutting board, as these can damage the wood and leave behind harmful residues.
- Use separate boards: Use separate cutting boards for raw meats, poultry, fish, and vegetables to prevent cross-contamination. This helps reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
- Resurface as needed: Over time, your cutting board may develop scratches or cuts from knives. If these become deep or numerous, you can resurface the board with sandpaper to restore its smooth surface.
